Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, better known by her stage name Megan Thee Stallion, was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and shot to fame when her freestyle raps went viral on several social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok.
Her debut studio album Good News was released in 2020 and sold over one million copies in the United States, earning a platinum certification. It reached number one on the US R&B/Hip Hop chart and brought the hit single “Savage”.

2. Travis Scott
Travis Scott, known to his family and friends as Jacques Bermon Webster II, is another rapper from Houston, Texas. His 2018 studio album Astroworld was named the best album of the year by Uproxx and reached number one on many different charts.
The album also won Album of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards and brought the insanely popular single “Sicko Mode” featuring Drake. It was certified Diamond (10x Platinum) by the Recording Industry Association of America.
3. Scarface
Brad Terrence Jordan, otherwise known as Scarface, began his career as a member of the Houston hip-hop group Geto Boys. He is widely successful, with The Source ranking him as the sixteenth-best lyricist of all time.
Scarface also had a great solo career, with eleven studio albums. His most popular was The Untouchable, which reached the number one spot in both the US Billboard 200 and the US Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts and was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
4. Trae Tha Truth
Frazier Othel Thompson III, who is better known as Trae Tha Truth or simply Trae, is a Texas rapper from Houston.
He has had some controversy during his career, including a shooting at one of his performances. The bullet hit him in the arm, but he recovered.
His discography consists of twelve studio albums, many of which were moderately successful. His most famous was Life Goes On, which charted on the Billboard Hot 200, the US Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, and the US Top Rap Albums chart.
5. Slim Thug
Stayve Jerome Thomas, who is better known by his stage name Slim Thug, is a rapper from Houston, Texas who rose to fame when he contributed to “Still Tippin” by Mike Jones in 2004.
In 2006, he won an MTV Video Music Award in the category of Best R&B Video for “Check On It”, which was by Beyonce and featured himself and Bun B, a fellow Texas rapper.
6. Z-Ro
Joseph Wayne McVey IV, otherwise known as Z-Ro or the Mo City Don, is a rapper from Houston, Texas. The New York Times named him one of the most underrated rappers from America in 2007.
He has released a multitude of studio albums throughout his career, including the popular Drankin’ & Drivin’.
It was released in 2016 and charted at number five and seven on the US Top Rap Albums and the US Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts respectively.
7. Bun B
Bun B, known to his friends and family as Bernard James Freeman, is one member of the Texan rap duo UGK (UnderGround Kingz), alongside Pimp C. He has also had a successful solo career, with two number-one studio albums.
Both Trill and II Trill topped the US Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and the US Top Rap Albums chart, with the latter also reaching the top of the US Independent Albums chart.
8. Paul Wall
Paul Michael Slayton, i.e. Paul Wall, is a DJ and rapper from Georgetown, Texas.
With thirteen studio albums, he has become a well-known star. The People’s Champ was released in 2005 and topped three charts in the United States, being certified Platinum.
He has won three Ozone awards: Taste Maker (Style and Trendsetter), Best Rap/R&B Collaboration for “I’m N Love (Wit a Stripper)”, and Best Rap Collaboration for “Holla at Me”.

Marcus Lakee Edwards, also known as Lil’ Keke, is a rapper from Houston, Texas who is best known for being a member of the hip-hop group Screwed Up Click.

He has been given the honor of his own day in Houston and was even given the Lifetime Achievement Award by President Obama.
